Things that I love Tuesday

***Disclaimer: Unless otherwise noted I have not been asked to promote or review any of the products I feature on "Things that I love Tuesday". They are truly just things I love and when I find things that I love I want everyone to know about them!***

Today I feature something that my mom introduced me to a few weeks ago. It is the Skinny Cow Ice cream sandwich. At just 140 calories and just 1.5g of fat it is a great treat on those days when you just want some ice cream. I usually have one or two a week, usually on weekends because that is when I tended to eat ice cream before. The mint flavor is my favorite, followed by the chocolate.

I also tried the Skinny Cow truffle. This was chocolate ice cream with a chocolate coating on a stick. I did not love it like I love the ice cream sandwiches, but my kids liked it a lot. Speaking of that, I have a dilemma. My kids want to eat my healthy treats (these ice cream sandwiches) most days after school! I bought a big box at Costco, figuring it would last me awhile since my husband and I usually only ate them on weekends. Once my kids discovered them that grand plan went out the window. I'm happy my kids like these lower calorie ice cream sandwiches, but I was hoping to be selfish with them. Also, I have never been one to keep ice cream sandwiches in the house on a regular basis and am not sure I want my kids to get into the habit of eating one every day. I'm not sure if this would be establishing a bad habit. I mean, when my kids are grown and move out of the house, are they really going to buy the skinny cow brand or will they turn to another higher calorie brand? I guess what I need to do is make this a weekend treat for everyone. So do you all enjoy yourselves some skinny cows? What kinds?

Tomorrow is my official weekly weigh in, I'm looking forward to it!

  1. The mint ones are my favorites too! I also struggle with my kids wanting to eat them. I've resorted to hiding them behind the frozen vegetables! I know that is not the best solution either. It's just that they are so expensive and such special treats to me that I want to save them and have them when I really want to enjoy them. The positive thing about hiding them is that I forget they are there too - otherwise it's hard to limit myself! They are SO good!

  2. I love the idea of the weekend treat! One of my fondest memories of childhood is the occasional treats my Dad would bring home. They were totally unhealthy, but they were also a month thing, usually coinciding with payday. :)

  3. Good luck on your weight in tomorrow!!!! IT could be Onederland! How exciting!

It drives me nuts when my kids eat my low cal, expensive treats!!! I hide them in our big freezer and buy them less expensive treats! But, you're right, it's good that they like the lower cal stuff.

  4. I hate when my kids want my stuff. It drives me crazy, especially since they have more than enough of their own.

I actually love Skinny Cow ice cream cones. They are so good and you can't tell they are low cal at all.

  5. I love the chocolate truffle but try not to buy them too often. If they're in my freezer I'll eat them too often. Know what I mean?

  6. Shoot, I love these but they're so expensive that I don't buy them.

What I do is I freeze a little yogurt and sandwich it between a *healthy* cookie when I get a major craving for a ice cream sandwich... but I may need a *real* one soon :)

  7. Thanks for the idea to get these. I was able to pick up the Target brand last night. 8 for $3.25. A winner in my book! I tried the peanut butter flavor. Yummolicious.
